Welcome to Call and Response-ability: Black Canadian Works of Art and the Politics of Relation. This is the companion website for a book project on the contexts, reception, and reception aesthetics of Black Canadian cultural achievement, including writing, music, film, and visual art. Like the website, the publishing project is in progress. The Call for Papers is now closed as we have received a large number of outstanding contributions and the editorial process towards finalizing the volume is underway. This website also offers a few reference materials that might be useful for any critical work in the project area: a general working bibliography, prepared by Valerie Uher, and a bibliography with studies relevant to Black-indigenous solidarities, prepared by Karina Vernon. The project is part of a joint research undertaking directed by Karina Vernon (University of Toronto) and Winfried Siemerling (University of Waterloo), funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
